Quint - Judging by Fox's recent decisions, I'm sure instead of seeing the Space Cowboy in a scary, atmospheric thriller somehow modern day teens will be Twittering from a luxury space shuttle trip that goes awry and ends up on the Alien home world. The PG-13 blood-less, non-atmospheric mayhem will be fast-cut, shakey and filled with CGI smears running around.

Friday morning's Variety confirms the news Entertainment Weekly broke early last month: orignal "Alien" helmer Ridley Scott is indeed directing a prequel to "Alien." More than that, a screenwriter has been hired. Jon Spaihts, a hot Hollywood talent who hasn’t quite gotten anything produced yet, is now penning the script.

Ridley Scott Reveals ALIEN Prequel Details
Ridley Scott spoke to MTV about the project (now in the early stages of development):
"It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley],"
"It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?' The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer's chair. Remember that?"
"[The film] is about the discussion of terraforming -- taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life,"
Two Alien Prequels In 3D!
Yesterday, director Ridley Scott shared a few early details about his upcoming Alien prequel with the world, via MTV. Today we continue on our inter-galactic learning curve with the news that Scott is planning not one, but Two Alien prequels. Oh, and he’s filming them in 3D! The news comes via Collider who recently attended a Us press junket for Robin Hood, the director took time out from his story of robbing the rich, to talk a little about the long-awaited Alien project.
